「Bone meat of fleshpot lacking peace and calm」who cannot bear to stay and tries to escape (a bad investment, wasted resources): punishment reserved for twice-escaped and twice-recaptured slaves who「stayed only temporarily and then departed」as do「visitors and guests.」Punishment reserved for those visitors as guests who were unable to pay their account with the proprietress,「bone meat of deliberately out-of-reach one」or「one in-house under the roof」with 「insufficient funds」and as a consequence the ex-client's knees were crushed with a heavy blunt instrument as settlement of the bad debt. Perhaps source of the English term DEADBEAT.
　Hobbling both runaway slaves and deceitful clients was a highly effective method of identification within the community, but especially assisted bouncers at the door of any business establishment to prevent re-entry of an unwanted visitor. Deadbeats and twice-recaptured slaves would then be compelled to move about only with the use of his or her arms while dragging the lower portion of the body forward along the ground, resembling a mudskipper (a species of fish that can perambulate on land for a while but leaves a telltale track in its wake). While not too good for maintaining the condition of the skin or any clothing worn on one's lower body, it did encourage shoulder and arm muscle development at the expense of thickly-calloused hand palms, eventually, assuming the individual survived that long. Suggested as the original intent and source of the English contractual law term「without recourse」since a person so hobbled could no longer move themselves in reverse, nor return to the brothel for admittance (subsequently, the legal definition evolved somewhat).

Always keep in mind that these glyphs were originally created by groups of bored old men as vulgar riddles and analogies for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that) and represented Chinese society many thousands of years ago, and not as a written or spoken language. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system. Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles? Yes! It is! Sex had no shame in ancient China. Why would it? And now, there is a cover-up. No one is suggesting these glyphs depict contemporary life in China, Japan, or anywhere else.
