Playing GO (or, IGO) requires the orderly placement of black and white 'stones' using one hand by each player in a complicated entanglement of various flowing patterns, sometimes causing some indecision and fear of death (of the playing pieces, not the players, generally). Each side piles the stones in a bowl until placed on the playing board one at a time sequentially. Graceful movements are essential, since inadvertently dropping a stone onto the board tends to mess up the game due to unintended random rearrangement of the stones already in place. The total playing pieces are abundant, with the board having 361 possible points on which to place a stone. IGO has been suggested as the epitome of game-playing, requiring brilliance and shining intelligence while creating beautiful patterns due to the extreme simplicity of the rules. Actually however, the black pieces were fashioned from granite, but the white were carved from large sea shells, not stone (囲碁, baduk, weiqi. 'GO' is a generic name for a class of various games using these same items).

Always keep in mind that these glyphs were originally created by groups of bored old men as vulgar riddles and analogies for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that) and represented Chinese society many thousands of years ago, and not as a written or spoken language. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system. Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles? Yes! It is! Sex had no shame in ancient China. Why would it? And now, there is a cover-up. No one is suggesting these glyphs depict contemporary life in China, Japan, or anywhere else. This site describes glyph meanings, not people. These glyphs however, describe many and various things, including people, long before there were any notions of becoming politically incorrect.
