Meanings of elements

「Emerging shaft and the whole thing, all, the entirety of」refers to a finely woven netting or fine-mesh cloth used to contain odoriferous, pungent, odor-masking mashed herbs within a netting and applied as a poultice to cover and contain the「entire male emerging shaft」genitalia set, also known as a codpiece (the thing that holds slimy fishy-odor meat resembling a mound of raw codfish). Incidentally, the given Japanese pronunciation means「covered, smothered with mustard sauce」that might be used on green leafy salad vegetables and is similar as to color, odor, texture, the contents of medical dressings, and so on, seemingly to depict a sackful of pus…
　On the other hand, if the「emerging shaft is whole, acceptable for insertion with/by the king」then it is likely sweet-smelling and not likely stinky, nor will it stain the lord's fine clothes (well, not too much for that matter).
In its original parlance, describing a thing or situation as "smells fishy" did refer to having probable cause for extreme doubt and suspicion, but most folks do not realize why innocuous fish are so maligned in this manner. A fishy or pungent-smelling discharge from the vagina or penis may signify the presence of an infection, so caution was advised...and still is today.
