It is difficult to identify exactly the externally referenced animals:「snake-worm (amphibian) wearing an outer shell」as the Nankiang horned toad. There are many species of red-spotted reptiles and amphibians. If used medicinally in China, then perhaps LIZARD can be a「snake that assists」or perhaps what「lies between」the combination of a reptile and shellfish might conceivably be an amphibian, such as a common TOAD that is horny and copulates by「lying between」others in a clusterfucking arrangement, toad reproduction actualized as an assisted clusterfuck in fact (these animals may have been the inspiration for that term). The successful males literally「wear a female as an outer shell」for days in a long「sexual interlude」that lays「loose dripping clouds」of gelatinous eggs in long strings:
　「The males mount the females' backs, grasping them with their fore limbs under the armpits in a grip that is known as amplexus. The males are very enthusiastic, will try to grasp fish or inanimate objects and often mount the backs of other males. Always keep in mind that these glyphs were originally created by groups of bored old men as vulgar riddles and analogies for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that) and represented Chinese society many thousands of years ago, and not as a written or spoken language. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system. Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles? Yes! It is! Sex had no shame in ancient China. Why would it? And now, there is a cover-up. No one is suggesting these glyphs depict contemporary life in China, Japan, or anywhere else.
