「Grit, dust」is both MINISCULE, TINY and exists in VERY GREAT PROPORTIONS, causes「a few tears」「grains in eyes」「insufficient focus ability」and「fluid flow with squinting」as all the element combinations depict:

If something appears miniscule, it may be very far distant from the viewer, or in a vast area, or a small piece of grit up close of course. With「fluid」suggests seeing a tiny ship or spot of land over a vast body of water. Anything in something vast appears miniscule.
Gritty encrustations often appear with cases of sexually transmitted infection, necessitating a closer inspection.「Focus on the fluid flow」and「fluid that blinds」both describe septic neonatal conjunctivitis: infants born when the mother is infected quite often are blind, and the eyes become covered with TINY gritty encrustations of dried gleet—the infection thrives in the mucus and tears of eye sockets, too. Infant gonorrhea and chlamydia rubbed into the eye sockets at birth while passing through an infected vagina were leading causes of blindness in the past, and is why silver nitrate drops and other medicines are placed into the eyes of minutes-old babies.

Always keep in mind that these glyphs most likely were originally designed by groups of clever old men as vulgar riddles for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that), representing Chinese society many thousands of years ago, but intended NOT as a written or spoken language when created. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system! Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles? Yes! It is, and often with multiple correct answers to each riddle, the same as is true today. Sex had no shame in ancient China. Why would it? But, have there been necessary rewrites and altered explanations of the original elemental meanings over the centuries?

No one is suggesting these glyphs depict contemporary life in China, Japan, or anywhere else. This site describes glyph meanings, not people. These glyphs however, describe many and various things, including people, long before there were any notions of becoming politically incorrect.
