Seems to describe a cloth covered with wet sticky fluids folded in half to create a symmetrical pattern from splashed or spurted stuff, not unlike a Rorschach inkblot. Likely the cloth floor covering of a gonorrhea clinic after a busy afternoon of bougie reaming. Note that the given meaning of a「splashed pattern」is an oxymoron: if it was splashed then it is not in a pattern, and if in a pattern it was not splashed. The only way to create a pattern from a splash, perhaps to be used as the left and right halves of some textile, would be to fold the material in half and press the two halves together whilst the coloring fluids were still wet, as one way to dispose of it most likely and to prevent further drippage.
