This glyph is possibly the source of an English proverb that when first used a few hundred years ago was considered quite vulgar, since folks understood the meanings brought back to England as used in Chinese during the time that the English were in China peddling opiates (heroin is an opiate, for example) to addicts at a great profit. Chinese elements within the English proverb can be explained thusly:「the talented use of one's own hands on prick between spread feet, as a sexual tryst with oneself」saves (prevents) spontaneous「spurting, nine」 (九) at an inopportune time, such as occurs with nocturnal emissions (cloud nine dreaming) that may soil blankets with fluids that can be difficult to launder.

　「As far as is known, the first person to state unambiguously that 'a stitch in time saves nine', rather than Fuller's less confident 'may save nine', was the English astronomer Francis Baily, in his Journal, written in 1797 and published in 1856 by Augustus De Morgan: [quote] After a little while we acquired a method of keeping her [a boat] in the middle of the stream, by watching the moment she began to vary, and thereby verifying the vulgar proverb, A stitch in time saves nine.
