Meanings of elements
TO BE, EXISTENCE with VILLAGES
…or: HAND on MEAT with FRONTAL FEMALE GENITALIA
Meaning DENSE GROWTH, AROMA, EMITTING STENCH, and MELANCHOLY as a result of CITY LIFE teeming with culture as are bacteria in yoghurt (see 鬱), correlations that were recognized early. Now greatly simplified to「being, existing with village」to characterize initial human socialization. Rural, countryside people who migrated into the cities as「more meat from villages.」Recall that most folks won't leave their ancestral home to venture into an unknown, stinky city unless they were starving and had lost their means of support, so these newcomer human beings from the countryside in fact may be similar to rotting flesh in the minds of city people, with no hope, no food, no money, and selling their young daughters (meaning here: the 'really young' daughters) in order to survive in a cold, cruel human society in which they are the dregs.
「Hand on meat with frontal female genitalia」could refer to various co-educational activities, any one of which might cause a DENSE mind, rapid GROWTH of male appendages, EMITTING AN ODOR, subsequent MELANCHOLY, and/or so-called HUMAN CULTURAL PROGRESS (so that's what the Internet is?). Original character (鬱) depicted packing meat cavities, much as human beings are packed like meat into large cities, causing terrible HUMAN STENCH AND ODOR, not unlike that which accompanies the opening of some canned horsemeat, such as dog food. Right element itself literally also means「scorpion burrow」with extended meanings of「village, rural hometown, vagina, human female frontside (see 邑).」Rotten meat will likely soon create a STENCH, a characteristic of most large cities especially prior to the development of sewer systems. And don't think it cannot happen in this day and age—one hundred years ago, folks sold and/or ate their own children in order to stay alive in newly-communist Russia, with similar situations occurring all through human history.

Always keep in mind that these glyphs most likely were originally designed by groups of clever old men as vulgar riddles for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that), representing Chinese society many thousands of years ago, but intended NOT as a written or spoken language when created. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system! Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles? Yes! It is, and often with multiple correct answers to each riddle, the same as is true today. Sex had no shame in ancient China. Why would it? But, have there been necessary rewrites and altered explanations of the original elemental meanings over the centuries?

No one is suggesting these glyphs depict contemporary life in China, Japan, or anywhere else. This site describes glyph meanings, not people. These glyphs however, describe many and various things, including people, long before there were any notions of becoming politically incorrect. The question to be answered is, should these glyphs continue being used, by anyone, anywhere, for expressing language? (More...) Despite how seemingly bad our human existence is today, do you actually believe that the so-called good old days were any better? Or could they have been worse?

By the way, with a limited number of the same elements used by the sages again and again to form these glyphs, you should expect to find the same explanations again and again, as tedious as that may become, and as an inherent trait of any lexicon. This site explains multiple meanings of glyphs ignored or censored by other sources, generally as being too embarrassing to admit today.
