Most likely refers to most any variety of fern species. Ferns reproduce via sporogenesis occurring in sporangia that are small, round, reddish-brown bumps covering the underside of leaves. While not closely related to most ninja, sporangia do resemble chancres, syphilitic spots on human skin, and pox pustules covering the inside and underside of sheath skin, filled with spirochetes awaiting transmission to a new host. Always keep in mind that these glyphs were originally created by groups of clever old men as vulgar riddles and analogies for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that) and represented Chinese society many thousands of years ago, and not as a written or spoken language.
