[Elements vary by font] The「terraced slope」concept (land at various levels) and「land pushing into land」together depict the compacted land mass of a CONTINENT. Japanese adds many meanings that seem to have little to do with continental land masses, but elements as「human backside」with「fecal copulation, mushroom in night soil」do seem to describe a BUM, NE'ER-DO-WELL, SLACKER, as well as SATISFACTORY, GOOD ENOUGH, a BUGGER and may make some sense as the case may be, not to mention ARMY TACTICS of bygone days, no doubt. Note also that English has these same word uses, with「continent」referring to firm and compacted soil, but「incontinent」used to describe loose and dripping, soft and runny, slurry-like soil, uncontrollable and unable to keep firmly together.
　「Soil slopes of six lands」as the Japanese font variant suggests that there are six large land masses on the Earth's surface, considering Eurasia as a single land mass, which in fact it is.

Always keep in mind that these glyphs were originally created by groups of clever old men as vulgar riddles and analogies for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that) and represented Chinese society many thousands of years ago, and not as a written or spoken language. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system. Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles? Yes! It is! Sex had no shame in ancient China. Why would it? And now, there is a cover-up. No one is suggesting these glyphs depict contemporary life in China, Japan, or anywhere else.
