Glyph elements  [ Toggle Font ]

Meanings of elements
BEG, REQUEST, FLASHING GLINT with SEX, REDDEN, RIPEN, VOLUPTUOUS, EROTIC
…or: CENTRAL, REACH A CONCLUSION, CONCLUDE, FORM A JUDGEMENT, GLIMPSE AT CENTER OF HYMEN with SEX, COLOR, TURN CRIMSON, BEGIN TO REDDEN, RIPEN, VOLUPTUOUS, EROTIC
…or: COLORFUL SEX with CENTER OF VULVA, PERFORMING A DEFLOWERING
Air currents of any kind, atmospheric or otherwise, do not normally have any color nor can they be assigned a sex, although an air current may contain odors, or smoke, or clouds that have various colors in some circumstances (often red during the two twilights occurring each day). Right element's original meaning is「sex, color, and the color of sex, turning red」referring to elements of「head and neck with screwing vortex, vagina, penis with flesh seam within orifice.」Left element of a「virgin's vulva spread to reveal the central portion」due to having「sex」may naturally break most of the remaining hymen attached to the sides of the vaginal opening into tissue tags, and cause some red color to appear, that of blood, with its telltale smell. …so, putting this all together suggests that after having sex initially and losing one's virginity, the central portion of the vulva will now be exposed to AIR FLOW, or if you insist, to AIR CURRENTS IN THE ATMOSPHERE, a meaning ascribed by external sources that seems to grossly exaggerate the conditions described with the intention of obfuscating the point made by the glyph's elements, which instead may be describing that unique odor of clouded blood mixed with vaginal mucus and semen which occurs upon the deflowering of a female virgin, one of the favorite pastimes of lords and emperors, WAFTING OFF TO SOME DIVINE PLACE IN HEAVEN. Then again, perhaps the meaning is that the「central part of sex」is a blow job, as is depicted by many, many other glyphs. It should be pointed out that the only source meaning located was one not listed in our source Chinese dictionary, hence some modern assumptions may be at play, and the Chinese prefer not to provide their historical meaning, for some reason that can only be guessed. Japanese pronunciations sometimes are helpful, but they too are missing: nonetheless, COLORFUL SEX with CENTER OF VULVA, or, PERFORMING A DEFLOWERING, do seem to fit the ascribed external meaning.

Unihan extended: air current; atmospheric current

Always keep in mind that these glyphs most likely were originally designed by groups of clever old men as vulgar riddles for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that), representing Chinese society many thousands of years ago, but intended NOT as a written or spoken language when created. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system! Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles? Yes! It is, and often with multiple correct answers to each riddle, the same as is true today. Sex had no shame in ancient China. Why would it? But, have there been necessary rewrites and altered explanations of the original elemental meanings over the centuries?

No one is suggesting these glyphs depict contemporary life in China, Japan, or anywhere else. This site describes glyph meanings, not people. These glyphs however, describe many and various things, including people, long before there were any notions of becoming politically incorrect. The question to be answered is, should these glyphs continue being used, by anyone, anywhere, for expressing language? (More...) Despite how seemingly bad our human existence is today, do you actually believe that the so-called good old days were any better? Or could they have been worse?

By the way, with a limited number of the same elements used by the sages again and again to form these glyphs, you should expect to find the same explanations again and again, as tedious as that may become, and as an inherent trait of any lexicon. This site explains multiple meanings of glyphs ignored or censored by other sources, generally as being too embarrassing to admit today.
