「これ、ここにある糸」というと、その糸が特別なものであるかのように（あるいは、その糸を身につけた男は、いつも足を上げてお尻を地面につけて王様のように振る舞って立ち止まります）、その色が「珍しい」染料であり、したがって高価であったため、紫は王族の色でした。
