Either「cliff」(not likely) or「hand, wrist」(likely) with「the bird」that sources say mean GOOSE. A bird you can handle may very well be a tamed goose. Geese are not too well known as cliff-dwelling animals although they do migrate over mountains at times, so it is more likely that the outer element formerly was a variant of「hand」or,「erect rod, arrayed rod.」Carrying a bird such as a goose under one's arm, in hand, was customary when going out to visit with some friends. The bird was carried as a「portable party treat」(see related glyphs), which gave rise to the English slang「goosing」that initially meant literally to poke the bird in its cloaca at parties (not unlike「tupping」another form of zooerastian husbandry).

Always keep in mind that these glyphs were originally created by groups of bored old men as vulgar riddles and analogies for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that) and represented Chinese society many thousands of years ago, and not as a written or spoken language. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system. Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles? Yes! It is! Sex had no shame in ancient China. Why would it? And now, there is a cover-up. No one is suggesting these glyphs depict contemporary life in China, Japan, or anywhere else.
