The reference to「forbid, warning against」is possibly to「not open」the clothing or「not display」the flesh beneath, a portion of clothing that should not be open to general display as the neckline: to avoid problems, keep one's BOSOMS fully covered. On the contrary of course, one place where「cloth is forbidden」might well be the breasts and neckline, to maintain sexual allure and hold the interest of others, to attract. CHERISH as if to hold something close in one's bosom, or, what everyone truly loves: holding BOSOMS. Used literally or figuratively.「Woodies and calculations」and「calculate」the「displayed grouping of two with emphasis, two displayed」suggests males mentally estimating BOSOM size, cup size, nipple size and so on, under the LAPEL, COLLAR, within the NECKLINE, calculating whether mammary intercourse is possible, that sort of thing. And, still available for viewing on the Internet today,「clothing displayed with two woodies」suggests a service provider working two clients simultaneously in a hand-to-mouth rotation that will in all likelihood cause the NECKLINE, COLLAR, LAPEL area to become covered with glistening drops in the event of a「miscalculation」(see 䙥), hence in that scene perhaps「clothing was forbidden, restricted.」

Always keep in mind that these glyphs most likely were originally designed by groups of clever old men as vulgar riddles for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that), representing Chinese society many thousands of years ago, but intended NOT as a written or spoken language when created. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system! Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles? Yes! It is, and often with multiple correct answers to each riddle, the same as is true today. Sex had no shame in ancient China. Why would it? But, have there been necessary rewrites and altered explanations of the original elemental meanings over the centuries?

No one is suggesting these glyphs depict contemporary life in China, Japan, or anywhere else. This site describes glyph meanings, not people. These glyphs however, describe many and various things, including people, long before there were any notions of becoming politically incorrect. The question to be answered is, should these glyphs continue being used, by anyone, anywhere, for expressing language? (More...)
