A「robust rock」is one large enough to act as an ANCHOR.「Stone with vigor」is not a quality normally associated with stone or rock, but as the「stones, rocks of a male」「testicles and male, arrayed for streaming rod」these elements could represent a grabbing point, or GRAPNEL, particularly in close hand-to-hand combat. Testosterone, the hormone of「vigor」is formed in the testes, known colloquially the world over as「male stones, rocks」and the location of many short hairs on the scrotal sac where one might be grabbed and held, controlled, with expressions in English with this identical meaning:「caught between a rock [one's rocks, stones, testicles] and a hard place [the erect shaft]」refers to being grabbed by the crotch and unable to resist fight back, or decide how to proceed for the time being. And「got me by the short hairs」[or, the short and curlies, and so on…note however that Chinese don't normally grow curly pubic hair].
　Furthermore, this same location above and around the scrotum was (and still is) an ideal location for securing restraints using a thin rope with high tensile strength as a means for safely transporting bound prisoners: to ANCHOR them in a line using a GRAPNEL (balls tightly bound in sac). No one can run off without losing his testicles, literally by tearing them off in a painful manner, as well as causing severe damage to those before and behind him. Hence, not many were will to attempt escape while so bound during transport. See 睪 and 尺.

Always keep in mind that these glyphs were originally created by groups of bored old men as vulgar riddles and analogies for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that) and represented Chinese society many thousands of years ago, and not as a written or spoken language. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system. Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles? Yes! It is! Sex had no shame in ancient China. Why would it? And now, there is a cover-up. No one is suggesting these glyphs depict contemporary life in China, Japan, or anywhere else.
