The motion of the Sun in the sky does not change velocity by「ebbing」nor does the Sun move with suddenly greater force as is normally needed for「thrusting」but it does seem to have a constant downward motion in the sky each day beginning sometime after about noon (note: this apparent motion is due to the Earth's daily rotation, and not the Sun orbiting our planet as was thought by most folks until relatively recently).「Sun ebb」as SUNSET, DUSK, EVENINGS are perhaps more related to the「portion of the day when downward thrusting」occurs, after the hunting parties returned to the communal cave with the day's fresh meat kills, supper was eaten, and then everyone became reacquainted physically. Most of the time, human hunting parties would try to return prior to sunset, since headlamps had not been invented yet. Further note that during both DUSK and EVENING, the full Sun is not visible by definition…evening is the time when the Sun 'is even with' the viewer, across the apparently flat surface of the Earth at the horizon, or so the ancients thought. Nevertheless, the red orb of the setting Sun sliding into the Earth's horizon is most noticeable at sunset when「sun, part in the middle」is highlighted for some moments.

Always keep in mind that these glyphs most likely were originally designed by groups of clever old men as vulgar riddles for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that), representing Chinese society many thousands of years ago, but intended NOT as a written or spoken language when created. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system! Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles? Yes! It is, and often with multiple correct answers to each riddle, the same as is true today. Sex had no shame in ancient China. Why would it? But, have there been necessary rewrites and altered explanations of the original elemental meanings over the centuries?

No one is suggesting these glyphs depict contemporary life in China, Japan, or anywhere else. This site describes glyph meanings, not people. These glyphs however, describe many and various things, including people, long before there were any notions of becoming politically incorrect. The question to be answered is, should these glyphs continue being used, by anyone, anywhere, for expressing language? (More...)
