Glyph does not resemble the hands of most folks today in every detail, but HAND is the meaning. As an element, the「use of hands to accomplish a task.」Elements perhaps are a「repeated stream of two states」(open-handed and closed-fisted) used to grab and hold items, the primary use of a human being's hands. Chinese meanings add doing something PERSONALLY and CONVENIENT:「repeatedly bobbing head with stream of fluid, turgid and flaccid, two states of being」for accomplishing a task that smacks more of doing it yerself [sic] rather than paying for it one way or another.

Always keep in mind that these glyphs were originally created by groups of clever old men as vulgar riddles and analogies for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that) and represented Chinese society many thousands of years ago, and not as a written or spoken language. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system. Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles?
