上部の2本の水平線は、「物理的状態の変化」を表し、「ますます広く、より広範囲に広がる」ことを意味します。匂い、雲、蒸気にはそのような傾向があるからです。

「Two states of loose and dripping」describes CLOUDS IN THE SKY that may drop precipitation as rain or in other forms, or not. As two people open their mouths and begin TO SPEAK to each other, halitosis often causes「two stench clouds」especially in the age prior to daily dental hygiene practices. Moreover,「two and stench loose and dripping」refers to the SURGING, BILLOWING CLOUD of rancid stench that followed around sex buddies before the days of penicillin and other antibiotics, spreading the unmistakable odors of sexually transmitted disease and infection.「Two stench clouds」suggesting that there was someone else to SPEAK TO, someone else who would understand the situation and tolerate getting close enough to SAY something.
　TO CALL SOMETHING BY A NAME, to NAME SOMETHING, perhaps as a reference to what the two buddies were CALLING, NAMING the stench and disease, but more likely refers to how other folks CALLED, NAMED those two buddies when they could smell them approaching.「Two loose and dripping」depicts INTERCOURSE as various dealings between persons.
　Chinese sources describe the non-JIS glyph 𠫔 as an old elemental form of「talented arm (with hand)」(肱). A「rod with talented arm」suggests floating on CLOUDS IN THE SKY, or cloud nine (see 九).
　Top two horizontal strokes may depict a「changing physical state」to mean「becoming wider and wider, more widespread」as smells, clouds, and vapors do have such a tendency.
　Some scholars suggest this depicts a drop spindle that is spinning silk fibers and threads in a wide pattern that looks like a cloud, and spreads the stench of stinky, unwashed silk. The drop spindle of a spinning wheel for a loom spun very quickly with silk threads hanging down and catching in the lower arm to be twisted into thicker threads. The spinning threads appeared like a「billowing cloud」and「spread stinking vapor.」A drop spindle gathers multiple hanging single silk threads (a single silk thread from one cocoon averages 1,000 meters in length). The mass of cocoons soaking in water below tumbles as the threads unwind, making them look as if the mass of caterpillars were still alive, and similar to the underside of a heavy cloud cover rolling quickly by. Normally, the cocoons with live caterpillars inside are placed into a bucket of boiling hot water to soften the sticky threads and parboil the larvae…still today, the folks spinning the silk threads often then enjoy eating the caterpillars while they work.
