Glyph elements  [ Toggle Font ]

Meanings of elements
SKILL, CRAFT, ART, TECHNIQUE, ABILITY, INGENUITY and CAVITY WITH TWO SETS OF LIPS, ANY SPACE BETWEEN BONES, PLACE FOR POUNDING AND GRINDING, TRAP, MORTAR, MINCING RAW MEAT
…or: CONFISCATE, SECURE BY RESTRAINT, BE PREPARING FOR with SKILLED, OCCUPATION, CLASSIFIER FOR RODS, BLASTING SHAFTS, ARMY DIVISIONS, AND SINGING SONGS
…or: PULL, STRETCH, EXTEND, MAKE LONGER with CROTCH
…or: CONFISCATE, SECURE BY RESTRAINT, BE PREPARING FOR SCREWING in ORIFICE of CROTCH ONCE AGAIN, ONE MORE TIME, THIS OR THAT, YIELD BOTH OF THEM
…or: TALENTED USING BOTH OF ONE'S HANDS TO ACCOMPLISH A TASK with ELDER PERSON, FEELING RELIEVED
…or: HANDS and CROTCH of MONKEY
Modern version of「talented use of both hands」with an「elderly person」who may be a forgetful or nearly blind older person SEARCHING FOR, SEEKING an item or door handle. Right elements of「hands grasping and tamping rod with crotch spread」as a very old person attempting to walk, bent over with a cane, and SEEKING, SEARCHING FOR the path.
Yet, the individual elements may simply mean SEARCHING, SEEKING as「two talented hands with rod in crotch and plugging orifice.」…a guy trying to make a human connection and find「relief」but perhaps the partner has passed out already and the other guy is likely fairly inebriated himself, or, is quite「elderly.」
Nevertheless, since the elderly become constipated much more often than younger people, this glyph could very well be referring to「using both hands to SEEK, SEARCH FOR the cause of a plugged orifice in crotch with a probe」(no kidding—this is the meaning in other glyphs)…the original elements could also be read as「tamping crotch with rod」(see the related glyphs with the explicit meanings of relieving constipation).
「While constipation is a problem for people of all ages, it has a much higher incidence among the elderly, and it is hard to find relief. Constipation rates in seniors (over 65 years of age) are around 30%.」

Note that the modern right elements appear to be「voices of gods」as a fairly loud roar, or「forcefully」and with「crotch」either might accompany actions intended to relieve constipation among the elderly.
Perhaps elderly folks used to walk away and become lost often, so family needed to SEARCH, SEEK for them (this still occurs) by hollering loudly. Often elderly people become forgetful as dementia begins to take hold of the mind in advanced age, and they need to SEARCH, SEEK for misplaced items within the cave or pit hole home, such as eyeglasses, keys, mobile telephones, etc. Then again,「elderly person using hands forcefully in crotch」might suggest SEEKING, SEARCHING for a lost or missing orgasm or erection due to dysfunction and old age…SEEKING「hands and crotch of [hose] monkey」: use your imagination.

Modern definitions (that generally disregard history) …excluding politically incorrect concepts and other meanings deemed offensive today; may list only pigeonholed definitions, euphemisms, or meaningless mnemonics)
Chinese: Japanese variant of 搜; to search
Japanese: to search, to seek, to look for
Unihan extended: search, seek; investigate
EDRDG: search; look for; locate

Always keep in mind that these glyphs were originally created by groups of clever old men as vulgar riddles and analogies for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that) and represented Chinese society many thousands of years ago, and not as a written or spoken language. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system. Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles? Yes! It is! Sex had no shame in ancient China. Why would it? And now, there is a cover-up. No one is suggesting these glyphs depict contemporary life in China, Japan, or anywhere else. This site describes glyph meanings, not people. These glyphs however, describe many and various things, including people, long before there were any notions of becoming politically incorrect. The question to be answered is, should these glyphs continue being used, by anyone, anywhere, for expressing language? (More...) Despite how bad the human world is today, do you actually believe that the so-called good old days were any better? Or they could only have been worse?

By the way, with a limited number of the same elements used by the sages again and again to form these glyphs, you should expect to find the same explanations again and again, as tedious as that may become, and as an inherent trait of any dictionary. This site explains the dual meanings of glyphs most often ignored by other sources that provide you with only the sanctioned definition, generally.
