A「cavern」containing a「covered, concealed penis, big discharges with gasping.」The elements make sense to describe a HERMITAGE as a cavern inhabited by a lonely man with few forms of alternative entertainment (the inner element means「gasping, big discharges from two hands grasping a penis」), today call a MAN CAVE. The meaning NUNNERY perhaps derives from the original reason for「covering, concealing」the penis that was to prevent castration (resulting only in a delay, in most cases), and only neutered eunuchs would be relatively safe with (or, from) a building full of women who normally are not sexually active, a NUNNERY or CONVENT.
　Alternatively, because those women might not be inclined to be sexually active, a male in such surroundings would either face having his「penis shutdown, concealed」or, need to「milk himself for a big discharge」with those two hands. While history explains that PICKLED DAIKON RADISH ROOT uses this glyph because some priest with this name enjoyed that particular food, one may wonder why his particular name stuck when others (who were not priests) also enjoyed that same food…note the strong resemblance of a yellow, shrunken, floppy, pickled long Asian radish root with the unused and shrunken schwantz of a hermit, or a severed, castrated schmekel of a priest.
　Japanese pronunciation (see 廬) describes a long cooking tool traditionally hung vertically (「erect below horizontal roof rafter」), with a vent in the roof above to enable「smothering」smoke and heat to escape, suspended over a firepit around which meat, fish, and other foods were skewered and then placed「stuck in the mud」around the fire to cook, with a large hook at the end of the tool for hanging pots over the smoking embers: note that「emphasis on rod of castrated eunuch with erection」would resemble just such a hook, having no testicles, and would be fattened a bit (「big buttocks hole with appendage」) due to a lack of testosterone in his system, not unlike fattened steer (bull cattle castrated before sexual maturity and raised for beef). Eunuchs are not impotent, by the way, but are sterile (not the same thing) and can certainly achieve an erection when stimulated…they just aren't motivated by testosterone surging through their various heads.「Gasping within cave」describes a similar setup, but without adequate ventilation.
