硯は、乾いた墨（黒色顔料または硯を含む硬化した粘土）の固形の棒から粘土硯の粉末の一部を前後に滑らせて挽き、小さなくぼみで水を加えて再構成し、スラリーを形成するために使用され、それを塗りつけ、羽根ペンまたは筆の先を「滑らせる」ことで書きます。硯によって書かれたものが見えるようになるため、「見る」という意味です。筆に少し力を入れすぎると、先端から墨が飛び散り、文字通り筆記具全体に「吐き出す」ことになります。
墨は黒く、また「頭をずらして吐く人ーの列」でもあった（王朝時代の中国では、ほとんどの人が黒髪だったことを思い出してください）。嘔吐する人は、見ている他の人の注意を引きます。おそらく、音、動き、匂いが注意を引きます。初期の人類は、集団内の他の人が嘔吐していることを知りたがり、1人が嘔吐すると、近くにいる他の人も本能的に同じ反応を示します。一座の正員の一人が何か悪いものを食べて嘔吐し始めた場合、他の正員も同じものを食べた可能性が高いため、防御機構としてその反応が引き起こされたのです。

An INKSTONE is used to grind by sliding back and forth portions of clay-soot powder from a solid stick of dry ink (hardened clay with black pigment or soot) to reconstitute with water in a small depression, forming a slurry with which to write by daubing and「sliding the head」of a quill or brush.「Stone with see, view」since the INKSTONE caused the writing to be viewable. Applying the brush with a little too much force causes the ink to spatter from the tip and literally「spit up」all over the writing material medium.
　Ink was black as might also be「array of sliding heads and vomiting」(in dynastic China where and when most all folks had black hair, remember). A vomiting person tends to attract the attention of others gazing. Perhaps the noise, motions, and smell attract attention. Early humans were keen to know when others in the group were vomiting, and when one person vomits the same response is instinctively started in others nearby. If one member of a troupe ate something bad and began to vomit, it was likely that the others ate the same thing, hence the response was triggered as a defense mechanism.

Always keep in mind that these glyphs were originally created by groups of bored old men as vulgar riddles and analogies for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that) and represented Chinese society many thousands of years ago, and not as a written or spoken language. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system. Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles? Yes! It is! Sex had no shame in ancient China. Why would it? And now, there is a cover-up. No one is suggesting these glyphs depict contemporary life in China, Japan, or anywhere else.
