Note that silk is not extracted from trees per se, it was extracted from cocoons often found within the trees prior to human breeding and domestication programs that began 5,000 years ago in China. Silk caterpillars spin around 300,000 turns or so while building a cocoon, after which the larva seem comatose. Nonetheless, the SILK TREE is a species with flowering blossoms that appear as fine as silk threads. The blossoms close each night and during rain, hence the Japanese name meaning「sleeping tree」as the elements describe.「Flashing for clan lineage」and then「clueless mister, clan lineage」suggest starting out with intercourse, but then, petering out altogether as it were.「Woody comatose, sleeping, with rod in orifice of main concubine, wife surrogate」describes falling asleep while copulating, silk threads (糸) in a flower blossom closing for the night.

Always keep in mind that these glyphs were originally created by groups of bored old men as vulgar riddles and analogies for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that) and represented Chinese society many thousands of years ago, and not as a written or spoken language. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system. Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles?
