「Line, and on the verge from edge to edge」as EXTENDING ALL THE WAY ACROSS FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER, to SPAN THE ENTIRE RANGE that some scholars suggest depicts sunrise to sunset.「Sun between two horizontal lines, horizons」also depicts a SPAN within a LIMITED RANGE from the perspective of a person on the surface of Earth, and EXTENDING ALL THE WAY ACROSS FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE, but doesn't cover the meaning of 'request' too well.
　「Rod with tonguing mouth and with another rod」also as TO REQUEST that seems to have little, if any, relationship with the Sun, and more to do with requesting some sort of special service to be performed along a line, or two, of「tonguing mouths」such as RUNNING ALL THE WAY THROUGH each of those mouths just to get the feel of every one, or, due to having a taste for [something]. Clearly a「rod on one side of a tonguing mouth with another rod on the other side」would depict MOVING FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE, and likely back and forth again in repeating cycles until everyone's REQUEST was fully satisfied. Japanese pronunciation does suggest all of「crossing over, shuttling from side to side」and both「friends」with the grammatical plural form of something, so this latter interpretation is rather likely, and fulfills all given meanings with their pronunciations as well. Needless to point out is that「two tonguing mouths」might also be a remote possibility for these elements, and requested in a brothel, but the positioning of the tonguing mouth between the two rods seems to preclude this scenario. Then again, there could be three rods here, with one at a time in orifice and in sequence, and so on.

Always keep in mind that these glyphs were originally created by groups of bored old men as vulgar riddles and analogies for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that) and represented Chinese society many thousands of years ago, and not as a written or spoken language. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system. Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles?
