With old buildings constructed and used by the religious witch doctor shamans for providing various services, the outer walls were lined with a roofed but open walkway (the corridor, porch, veranda…a very large roof eave), and the inner portion of the building is where rooms were containing the service providers. Many of these same pagoda-style buildings are now being reused as temples and shrines. Clients and service providers walked around the outer walkway to reach the designated location for providing services. The same structure attached to each floor above became the roof and eave of the floor below that was being used as an outer hallway, walking in heaven (above the ground level). In other words, this structure served both as a roof and a walkway, depending on what storey a person was located.

Always keep in mind that these glyphs were originally created by groups of clever old men as vulgar riddles and analogies for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that) and represented Chinese society many thousands of years ago, and not as a written or spoken language. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system. Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles?
