　It is no coincidence that the English root word「broth」meaning fluids in which meat has been heated, cooked and fired, is used to describe「someone who broths」as a brother and a「house for brothing」as a brothel. Concubines used salts in the deep skin slits of their bound feet to accomplish two things at once: dry the skin, and disinfect any wounds or straggling bacteria left by clients.
