「Diseased penises」and「orifice that must be avoided with woody」describes the RULES and REGULATIONS placed in effect in order to slow down the endemic spread of syphilitic pox or gonorrhea within a specific area in which sexually transmitted diseases exceeded a proportion of the populace, as health quarantines on sex, REGULATIONS within the prostitution districts, and of shamans, brothels, the caves of wonders, bath houses, roadside quickie blow job stands, opium huts, and so on. When a PATTERN of illness was discovered in an area, and those illnesses fit the known PATTERNS of lesions, chancres, dripping gleet and bloody pus, pox pustules, genital warts, herpetic blisters, fishy smells, etc., then an area was red-lined on the map and CARVED out as were the diseased body tissues with discharges, inspection gateways with walled districts and quarantines as the RULES and REGULATIONS, in which prohibitions were announced and enforced by patrolling brute squads. Or, we can accept the scholarly explanation of「arrow square」as in making all arrows fit a standard pattern…?
In its original parlance, describing a thing or situation as "smells fishy" did refer to having probable cause for extreme doubt and suspicion, but most folks do not realize why innocuous fish are so maligned in this manner. A fishy or pungent-smelling discharge from the vagina or penis may signify the presence of an infection, so caution was advised...and still is today.

Always keep in mind that these glyphs were originally created by groups of clever old men as vulgar riddles and analogies for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that) and represented Chinese society many thousands of years ago, and not as a written or spoken language. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system. Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles? Yes! It is! Sex had no shame in ancient China. Why would it? And now, there is a cover-up. No one is suggesting these glyphs depict contemporary life in China, Japan, or anywhere else.
