「Grand netting」indicates the package being covered with that netting appears large, a real TROPHY.「No netting」and「no netting on plate」indicates the degree of freshness and lack of infection, suggesting a very young vessel, a TROPHY (see 尚). Interestingly, Western trophies often do indeed have holed handles, one on each side. A dish but「not a plate」that is also「clumsy on tray」as is a small round cup with no stem or handle, hence is a bit unstable, clumsy.
「Plant calyx」is the outer wrapping around a flower bud, a small, round cup shape (similar to a shot glass, but rounded).「Wine glasses」not in the Western style, but instead small stemless bowl-like cups that hold only a single mouthful and then must be refilled.
Related glyph (杯) with same meaning,「not a woody」「unopened blossom of woody」may describe a female (again, see 尚), or, the unaroused state of a male, hence the shape of the full prepuce still enclosing the glans and having the appearance, and the same size, as a small handleless cup used to drink alcoholic beverages (other than beer). Octopus and squid both have cavities with no stem or handle filled with 'ink' used to create a black cloud behind while escaping in order to stymie a predator. A ship's hull also holds some amount of water as a vessel with no stem or handle.
Mounting from behind enables grasping the pubic bone flange on each side of the hips known as the iliac crests of the pelvic girdle, but not as one might grasp a holed handle such as seen on a beer stein. As a counter for octopus and squid, perhaps a reference to phenomenal suction of the muscular hydrostatic cups located on cephalopod limb tentacles.

Always keep in mind that these glyphs most likely were originally designed by groups of clever old men as vulgar riddles for their own entertainment (see 籒 for that), representing Chinese society many thousands of years ago, but intended NOT as a written or spoken language when created. If these glyphs had been intended for language use, the sages could not have possibly designed a worse system! Is it truly possible that all these glyphs started out as off-color jokes and puzzles? Yes! It is, and often with multiple correct answers to each riddle, the same as is true today. Sex had no shame in ancient China. Why would it? But, have there been necessary rewrites and altered explanations of the original elemental meanings over the centuries?

No one is suggesting these glyphs depict contemporary life in China, Japan, or anywhere else. This site describes glyph meanings, not people. These glyphs however, describe many and various things, including people, long before there were any notions of becoming politically incorrect. The question to be answered is, should these glyphs continue being used, by anyone, anywhere, for expressing language? (More...)
