Old glyph elements (敎) were apparently「crossing motions, whacking」with「child」and「coerce.」Modern elements seem to be「burning sticks」or「homosexual」or「old man」with「child」(perhaps not「maggot」in this case) who are「whacking」as one INSTRUCTS, INDOCTRINATES, URGES, INCITES,…and TEACHES something to an initiate.
　Formerly meaning to INCITE an action, URGE someone to do something. Another possibility of「old man with child」(that is supposed to mean「respect for one's parents and elders」) with「whacking, coerce」suggests an attempt to beat a child into submission or until some sort of lesson is learned, such as something akin to: 'be respectful, or else your ass gets tarred behind the woodshed…'
